Super Green Smoothie Recipe
I’m a HUGE fan of a green smoothie and the benefits for hormone balance are immense. You can pack so much goodness into them, they are super easy and quick to make and if made correctly, they can fill you up till lunchtime. The green leafy vegetables (I like spinach and kale) help to support your liver detoxification, as do chia, flaxseeds and oats.
You can get plenty of healthy fats and protein in via nuts and seeds, and give them a real nutritional boost with superfoods like hormone balancing maca powder which helps relieve PMS and spirulina which has loads of iron and essential fatty acids as well as helping the liver to metabolise and excrete any excess oestrogen.
Super Green Smoothie Recipe
1 1/2 cups dairy free milk (coconut or almond are best)
1 small banana
Half a cucumber
Large handful of spinach
Juice of half a lime
1 tbsp ground flaxseed
1 tbsp maca powder
1 tsp spirulina (optional)
Method
- For each smoothie, simply blend all the ingredients in a Nutribullet or other high-speed blender.
- If needed, add water to reach your desired thickness.
- Use organic produce whenever possible.
- Each smoothie recipe serves two people or can be used as a substitute for one large meal.
Protein is important in the morning. You can add extra protein to any smoothie by including either a scoop of your favorite wholefood protein powder (I like Sunwarrior or Purition) or 3 tablespoons of hemp seeds.
